Houlton Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Calais station arrested a Mexican national this week after they say he illegally entered the United States from Canada.
The Houlton Sector communications center received a report of possible illegal activity in Calais at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release. Agents responded to the area and tracked a man to an area downtown where they located the suspect, the statement said.
During questioning, the man admitted that he had illegally crossed the international boundary from Canada into the U.S. and did not possess immigration documents allowing him to enter or remain in the country, the release said. The man’s name was not disclosed.
After returning to the Calais Border Patrol station, agents checked records and confirmed that the subject was a 45-year-old citizen of Mexico who previously had been ordered removed from the U.S., in 1994, the statement said.
The man was charged with re-entry after removal and entry without inspection, the release said. Border Patrol didn’t say where he was being held.
The case is being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maine.
