AUGUSTA — Traffic was delayed on Interstate 95’s southbound lanes Friday morning in Augusta on after one car struck the rear of another, causing the vehicles to end up on opposite sides of the highway, authorities said.

One person suffered minor injuries in the crash, which was reported around 7:45 a.m. near the exit to Route 3 and MaineGeneral Medical Center, said Chief Roger Audette, of the Augusta Fire Department.

Traffic was reduced to one lane as rescue workers assisted people in both cars, Audette said. They left the scene around 8:15 a.m. At least one of the cars had to be towed away.

Maine State Police also went to the scene, but the agency didn’t respond immediately to a phone call seeking information.
