ShineOn Oakland Day is set for Saturday, July 28, which is part of the 4th annual Oakfest featuring three days of community events which will include a parade, street dance, farmers’ market and a triathlon.

Saturday, designated ShineOn Oakland Day, will welcome dozens of locally-grown food vendors, Maine artists and crafters and community organizations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at an open air market located between Williams Elementary School on Pleasant Street and Messalonskee Middle School. The day also will include live music, as well as many children and family activities.

As part of the day, the ShineOnCass Foundation has organized a Cereal Drive to support local children this summer through the Oakland Food Pantry. The community is asked to donate recently-purchased boxes of cereal that will be shared with families in need.

Cereal collection boxes will be available at the ShineOnCass booth at Oakfest Saturday, July 28, or children can drop boxes in ShineOnCass shopping carts in the Oakfest Parade starting at 6 p.m. Friday, July 27, and receive a thank you gift. Donations also will be accepted at the Oakland Town Office, Camden National Bank in Oakland, or can be purchased and donated at Buddies Groceries in Oakland.

The ShineOnCass Foundation also will host an Oakland Rocks event, where children can paint positive messages on rocks to hide in their community and help spread kindness. Children and adults can take a finished rock or create their own at the ShineOnCass booth from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 28. The event is supported by Camden National Bank.

To donate rocks or volunteer at the event, call 314-6996 or email shineooncass@gmail.com. For information about Oakfest, visit oakfest.com or call 465-7357.
