DAMARISCOTTA — The Eldercare Network of Lincoln County will celebrate 20 years of service this year to Lincoln County’s older adults. The Greens 20th Anniversary Celebration” is scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, at Lincoln Academy, 81 Academy Hill, in Newcastle. A daylong “What’s the Buzz About Reframing Aging? Linking Aging Research, Public Policy and Community Age Positive Symposium” is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, in Cheverus Hall at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Academy Hill in Damariscotta Mills, according to the release from the network.

The celebration, which will be in held the Lincoln Academy Dining Room, with a reception and Human Aging: The Science of Living Longer, Healthier Lives presentation by Dr. Michael Fossel, is a chance for the network to launch its future vision for healthy aging. The symposium will be an opportunity to integrate bench mark aging research, public policy advocacy and innovative, age-friendly community building ideas into the communities, regions and state’s conversations about aging.

The 20th ECN’s anniversary planning committee will take this time to embrace elderhood and explore new possibilities for turning the tables on stigma and ageism. The network plans to bring together public policy leaders in the field of aging: Jessica Maurer, JD — Maine Council on Aging, Dr. Len Kaye — University of Maine Center on Aging; Laura Lee, Ph.D. — Maine Community Foundation; researcher Dr. Michael Fossel — International Lecturer, Human Aging; and aging in community advocates Lori Parham — AARP Maine, Marilyn Gugliucci, Ph.D. — University of New England and Author William Sadler, Ph.D., each of whom is on the cutting edge of reframing how the network perceives aging, builds momentum, changes the narrative, and looks at community members advancing years in a positive, new, and sustainable light.

Connecting the Community, all ECN 20th Anniversary Celebration events are free. All generations are welcome. Donations in support of the Eldercare Network are appreciated.
