Route 1 in Scarborough has been reopened following a car crash Friday afternoon.

The heavily traveled road was closed in both directions between Hannaford Drive and Green Acres near the Maine Medical Center campus because of a “serious rollover crash,” according to Scarborough police. There were power lines down in the area.

Police had asked drivers to avoid the area because of significant traffic backups, but as of 4:30 p.m. a police dispatcher said the road had been reopened in both directions.

No other details about the crash were immediately available.
