PORTLAND — Gas prices in northern New England are holding fairly steady as summer transitions into fall.

GasBuddy’s daily survey of 1,228 gas stations in Maine says prices rose 1.3 cents per gallon in the past week to an average of $2.84 on Sunday. Prices in Vermont were down 0.4 cents to $2.87 per gallon while New Hampshire prices were up 0.6 cents to $2.77.

GasBuddy head of petroleum analysis Patrick DeHaan says it was a stable week in most of the country. The national average increased 1.6 cents per gallon to $2.84 over the past week.

DeHaan says a changeover to winter gasoline will provide some price relief.
