AUGUSTA — Capital Area Technical Center recently announced its December Students of the Month, according to a news release from the center.

Emily Douglas, a junior from Cony High School, is enrolled in the Medical/Veterinarian Terminology program. First quarter she achieved the highest grade in the class. Her instructor, Karen Parker said, “Emily possesses excellent skills when working with her classmates. She is reliable and hardworking. She will be an asset to the medical field,” according to the release.

Douglas plays field hockey year round, for Cony and also for the Coastal indoor field hockey team. She likes to fish in the summer in lakes and ponds. She hopes to attend another CATC program next year and her career goal is to become a nurse.

Porscha Ware, a junior from Cony High School, is enrolled in the Graphic Design and Printing program. Ware said at the beginning of the year, she didn’t even know how to turn on a computer. She now has confidence using a computer and the Adobe programs of Illustrator and Photoshop. She can cut vinyl and is excited to learn to screen print, according to the release. Her instructor Jessica Douin said, “She is always there to offer help. Porscha applies herself fully to the class … from her perfect attendance, to helping others, to helping maintain a professional atmosphere in the classroom. And she does it all with a smile,” according to the release.

When she is not in school, Ware likes to bake. She hopes to attend the program again next year, and her goal is to pursue a career in the graphic design field.
