A seven-week course to provide the basic information to get started as a beekeeper will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Feb. 26 through April 9, at the American Legion Post 37, Starr Street in Thomaston.
This course is designed for first- and second-year beekeepers and is offered by experienced beekeepers from the Knox-Lincoln County Beekeepers, the Maine State Beekeepers Association and the Maine’s State Bee Inspector.
Beekeeping basics, equipment needs, seasonal management, honey bee diseases and pest management are among a wide variety of topics that will be covered during the course in lecture format, power-point presentations and hands-on experiences.
The course fee is $60, which includes a textbook, handouts and a pro-rated yearly membership in KLCB.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
