A missing South Portland man has been found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said Saturday night.

Authorities had put out a Silver Alert for Carlos Ordonez, 69, who had last been seen on Tuesday. His body was found late Saturday afternoon near the banks of the Fore River in South Portland, said Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

McCausland said a man walking his dog in a wooded area near the river found the body around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Ordonez had been seen last near the Old English Village area of South Portland.

Police issued a Silver Alert, which is for missing people, especially seniors, with dementia or other mental disabilities.
