The Wiscasset Public Library held its annual meeting on Jan. 27 in the library on High Street, and elected its board of trustees for 2019.

Elected as president was Richard Vitz to replace Sally Gemmill, who is remaining on the board. Re-elected to continue as officers of the Board of Trustees were Linda Bleile as vice president, Tom Boudin as treasurer and Sandra Crehore as secretary. Also continuing on the board are Cindy Fischer, Kris Niederlitz, Cheryl Rust and Greg Uthoff.

Year-end reports by Library Director Pam Dunning and Children’s Librarian Laurie Ridgway indicate that the library was a busy place during the year, holding many events including a variety of author talks and a successful summer reading program for children. Linda Winterberg reported that the group Friends of the Library had a successful year with events such as the annual Bands for Books fundraising event in the fall and the Christmas holiday shop for children

On Wednesday, Feb. 20, the library will open a retrospective exhibit in its upstairs art room featuring the work of photographer and filmmaker Ray Witlin, who died in 2002.

A power-point presentation of his work by Witlin’s widow, Phyllis Chinlund and a discussion about his career taking photographs all over the world will begin at 5 p.m. that evening.
