WATERVILLE — A day of free cross-country skiing, fat biking and other winter activities is set for Saturday, Feb. 16, at Quarry Road Trails on 300 Quarry Road, according to a news release from Friends of Quarry Road.

Activities will include fat tire bike demonstrations available from Mathieu’s Cycle & Fitness, with snow sculpting and all the beauty of creating art outdoors with help from Waterville Creates!.

Families can play in the snow and create cool mini sculptures and also have fun snow painting too. Special guest sculptors from Maine’s award-winning 2019 US National Snow Sculpting Competition team, The Carvivores, will be on hand creating larger sculpted works as well.

The Welcome Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to provide ski equipment rentals, free snowshoes to loan and information.

Ski and snowshoe trails are open all day throughout the season with lighting on more than a mile of trail for night skiing until 9 p.m. Quarry Road Trails’ state-of-the-art snowmaking system ensures that the ski trails are covered even in periods of low natural snowfall.

These free community events and the Quarry Road Trails are supported through ski pass sales, donations, collaboration with partnering organizations, and contributions from annual sponsors.

This year’s gold level sponsors are Central Maine Motors, Colby College, Fabian Oil, Northern Light Inland Hospital, MaineGeneral Health. Silver sponsors are Maine State Credit Union, Morin Orthodontics and Trailspace with bronze level support provided by Marden’s.

This free community event is hosted by the City of Waterville with support from Friends of Quarry Road it is the third and final Community Ski Free Day scheduled for the 2018-19 winter season.
