FARMINGTON — University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Franklin County will offer a food safety training for volunteer cooks from 9 a.m. to noon, Thursday, April 25, at the University of Maine Extension office, 138 Pleasant St., Suite 1, according to a news release from the extension.

“Cooking for Crowds — Food Safety Training for Volunteer Cooks” offers up-to-date information on how to handle, transport, store and prepare foods safely for large group functions, such as soup kitchens, church suppers, food pantries and community fundraisers.

Participants will receive “Cooking for Crowds,” a manual designed for volunteer cooks; a certificate of attendance; posters; and an instant-read thermometer. This class meets the Good Shepherd Food Bank food safety training requirements.

The $15 per person fee will include all materials; limited financial assistance is available.
