TOPSHAM —Sydney Ames tossed a perfect game with 13 strikeouts and the Skowhegan softball team pounded out 23 hits in en route to a 26-0, five-inning win over Mt. Ararat in the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class A season opener for both teams.

Ames also went 4 for 5 at the plate, while sophomore Mariah Whittemore clubbed a pair of homers and drove in seven runs in the win. Sydney Reed was 4 for 6 with a triple, and Jaycie Christopher had a home run and two doubles in her varsity debut.

Skowhegan scored 15 runs in the second inning to blow things wide open, finishing with the most runs since scoring 21 in its season opener in 2014.

OCEANSIDE 2, MARANACOOK 0: Chloe Jones struck out 14 batters while leading Oceanside (1-0) to victory against the Black Bears (0-1) in Kents Hill.

Jones also held Maranacook to one hit, while Abby Veilleux had two hits for the Mariners.

Aby Jacques had the hit for the Black Bears. Natalie Costa held Oceanside to three hits.
