Camp to Belong Maine will hold its first Run to Belong 5K & Fun Run beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 5, starting and finishing at the Kennebec Valley YMCA, 31 Union St., Augusta, while utilizing the Kennebec River Rail Trail, according to a news release from Camp to Belong Maine.

All are welcome. Awards will be given for the overall winner in the male and female, and age group categories. The event will be live chip timed by CompetitorME.

Sponsors for the race are Bruns Brothers Process Equipment, Community Care, Consigli Construction, Edlund Iron Works Inc., Higgins & Bolduc Insurance, Lajoie Brothers Inc., Lakeside Landscape, Landry French Construction and Standard Waterproofing.

Camp To Belong Maine’s mission is, “to provide Maine youth separated by foster and/or adoptive care with shared experiences and memories; and to empower them to advocate for themselves and their siblings.”

For many children in out-of-home placements, Camp To Belong Maine may be the only opportunity each year that they get to laugh and play with their siblings for a whole week. This opportunity allows them to share meals, play games and even just chat with or say goodnight to their siblings each day. The children it serves cherish these small moments that they do not always get to share. These moments are CTB Maine’s goal — to ensure that siblings separated by foster care or adoption have positive childhood-sibling memories, according to the release.

The fun run is free, and $25 for runners. All proceeds will benefit CTB Maine.
