In conjunction with the Augusta Recreation Department, Mill Park Pétanque Club seeks eight students between the ages of 12 and 18 to come and learn how to play this game that requires skill and hand-to-eye coordination.

In return they will get plenty of fresh air, develop social skills and become competitive, according to a news release from the club.

Once the basics of pétanque are learned, the students will be coached to become better players. Those who attend then can enjoy the game much more when they find themselves playing and beating much older players. It is possible in tournaments that they will find themselves playing against all age and gender groups.

The club meets at 6 p.m. Thursdays, June 13, 20 and 27. Those who sign up are asked to attend all three weeks in order to be fair to all the participants. In the beginning, the sessions will last 1½ hours or more.

There will be no cost for this instruction and all equipment will be provided.

To register, vistit the Augusta Recreation Office in the Buker Community Complex, 22 Armory St. Augusta, or call 626-2350 June 6.
