The Knox Lincoln County Beekeepers Association will host its monthly meeting and hive opening at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Spicer’s Bees at 373 Hunts Meadow Road in Whitefield, according to a release from Maisie Sturtevant, Knox Lincoln County Beekeeper’s Association, program committee.
The focus of this meeting will be swarm management and frame manipulation.
The host and presenter will be David Spicer, president of the Maine State Beekeeper’s Association. He will lead an open hive inspection into an overwintered hive with bees that are preparing to swarm as part of their natural reproductive process.
He also will demonstrate methods to interrupt the swarm cycle and the demonstration may include making a nucleus or split colony.
All those interested in beekeeping are welcome to attend this event; bring a lawn chair and veil and/or protective clothing.
