We clearly forget the purpose of the Mueller investigation. I wish everyone would read the “Executive Summary to Volume I” of the Mueller report and disregard the stated candidate Russia favored.

The summary definitely shows that Russia interfered in our 2016 elections. The summary reinforces what our intelligence agencies have been telling us for over two years in conjunction with the earlier Mueller indictments against Russia-linked defendants. This was/is an attack against our country by a foreign adversary set on undermining our most important constitutional right — free and open elections.

When we allow other countries to interfere in our electoral process, we are not who we think we are. Russian interference was and is nothing less than an act of war and should have been responded to by our elected officials with extremely damaging sanctions — sanctions, in my opinion, to the point that would ground Russia’s economy to a complete halt.

What do we get instead? Two parties that have shown they could care less about our democracy. Both Democrats and Republicans are focusing on partisan bickering instead of the oath they took to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.

We all need to put our personal politics aside and demand actions are taken to severely punish Russia. We must prevent the recurrence of foreign interference and prove to the entire world that we will protect our country against any and all who try to disrupt our democracy.

The attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, bound our country together; the Russia attacks against our elections should have done the same. Instead, they are tearing us apart because those who we elected to represent us have chosen to ignore their oath of office.
