LIVERMORE FALLS — It looked like a runaway for the Monmouth Academy softball team. Instead, it took everything the Mustangs had to hang on.

Monmouth let a big lead slip away, but came back to top Spruce Mountain, 11-10, in 10 innings in a Mountain Valley Conference game in Livermore Falls.

Monmouth was up 8-0 after the second inning, but saw the Phoenix score runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth before tying the game with a five-run seventh. Both teams scored twice in the eighth, but the Mustangs pushed across a run in the top of the 10th to go ahead for good.

Abby Flanagan, Haylee Langlois, Abby Ferland and Taylor Truman had doubles for Monmouth (3-1). Mariah Herr pitched the whole game for the win.

Julianne Doiron homered twice for Spruce Mountain (1-5), while Calley Baker and Haley Turcotte also had home runs. Baker also doubled twice.

SOFTBALL

ERSKINE 7, MOUNT VIEW 0: Kayla Hodgkins pitched a one-hitter and struck out 15, guiding the Eagles to the Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference B win in South China.

Summer Hotham and Katelyn Rollins drove in two runs apiece for the Eagles (5-2), while Rollins, MaKenzie Strout, Emma Fortin and Parker King had two hits each.

Kate Bourgeois had the hit for the Mustangs (2-4).

MOUNT VIEW 7, ERSKINE 3: Neil Kenney did a little bit of everything to help the Mustangs  get their first win of the season.

Kenney struck out eight in six innings, and also had a double among two hits as the Mustangs won a KVAC B matchup. Kenney allowed three hits and also drove in two runs for Mount View (1-5), while Noah Jacobs had three hits and scored two runs and Damien Doughty had a hit and also scored twice.

Caden Turcotte, Nick Barber and Lucas Anderson had hits for Erskine (4-3).

 

EDWARD LITTLE 6, CONY 4: The Red Eddies scored three runs in the top of the seventh to break a 3-3 tie and take a KVAC A victory in Augusta.

Austin Brown went the distance and got the win for Edward Little (5-1), and also hit a double. Chase Martin had a pair of hits for the Red Eddies.

Eli Bezanson doubled and had two hits for the Rams (3-3), and Riley Geyer added a pair of hits as well.

 

MONMOUTH 13, SPRUCE MOUNTAIN 5: Dylan Lajoie had two doubles to help lead the Mustangs to an MVC victory in Livermore Falls in the first of two games Monmouth played Saturday.

Corey Armstrong had three hits, while Lajoie and Spencer Richardson had two hits each. Cam Armstrong picked up the win in relief.

Noah Gilbert had three hits, including a double, for the Phoenix (2-4).

MONMOUTH 4, BRIDGEWAY 2: Trevor Flanagan pitched a complete game to pace the Mustangs to an MVC victory in Livermore Falls in the second of two games for Monmouth.

Corey Armstrong had a pair of hits, including a double, to lead the Mustangs (4-0), and Matt Fortin and Thomas Neal also had doubles.

Jacob Meader had a triple for Bridgeway (0-3), while Thomas Dean and Hunter Tewksbury had doubles.

GREELY 19, CONY 1: Schuyler Wetmore and Ethan Fraser netted four goals apiece as the Rangers (5-1) handled the Rams (0-5) in a KVAC B game in Cumberland.

Andrew Lawrence chipped in with three goals and seven assists. Wetmore also had three assists and Fraser had one.

Miqueias Biasuz scored for Cony.

 

BONNY EAGLE 16, ERSKINE 2: Dillon Cobbett scored five goals and Griffin Madore added four as the Scots (3-1) defeated the Eagles (1-2) in South China.

Alex Dyer and Vinny Bruni contributed two goals apiece.
