Christine Irene Arbour

AUGUSTA – Christine Irene Arbour, 87, of Augusta, passed away on Jan. 31, 2021 after a brief illness.

She was born on April 9, 1933 in Augusta, the daughter of the late Hector C. and Maria (Gosselin) Arbour.

Christine graduated from St. Augustine School in 1947, and from Cony High School in 1951. She went to work for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company upon graduation and retired from that company in 1993 after 42 years of service. She enjoyed her association with the many fine employees at MetLife and was always happy to greet and assist their policyholders over the years.

Christine was a communicant of St. Michael Parish at St. Augustine Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She did volunteer clerical work for the parish and at St. Paul Center and Book Store in Augusta. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, tole painting, and doing counted cross stitch.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her three brothers, Bertrand J. Arbour, J. Clement Arbour, and Hector “Babe” Arbour, as well as by her sister, Jacqueline J. Foley.

Surviving are nieces, Susan Mitton and her husband, Fred, of Manchester, Lisa Pare of Sidney, Nicole Lennon and her husband, Dr. Richard Lennon, of Odessa, Fla., Kimberly Bard and her husband, Michael, of Augusta, Kathy Smith and her husband Travis, of Folsom, Calif., Renay Arbour-Cernuschi and her husband, Davide, of Tarpon Springs, Fla., and nephews, Michael Arbour and his wife, Jennifer, of Union, Dennis Arbour of Whitefield, and David Arbour and his wife, Mary Lynn, of Port Richey, Fla. She is survived by 21 grandnieces and grandnephews; several great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; and many cousins. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Lucienne Arbour of Augusta, Gloria Fleming of Augusta, and Sharon Chase-Arbour of Kalispell, Mont.

The family would like to extend its sincere gratitude to Kim Dolley, and her staff at The Captain Lewis Residence for their excellent care of Aunt Christine.

At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
