WATERVILLE — The weekly Masses in Spanish have been temporarily suspended. The Masses are traditionally celebrated at 12:15 p.m. Sundays at Notre Dame Church in Waterville, according to a news release from Dave Guthro, communications director, Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland.

“Many of the attendees at these Masses in Spanish are in or just under the group the vaccinations are now being directed towards as part of the state’s plan,” said Fr. Frank Morin, who celebrates the Masses, according to the release. “I met with the attendees at each of the Masses yesterday and they were supportive of the proposal. The Masses will resume at a time to be announced.”

Masses also have been canceled in Brewer held at 8 a.m. Sundays at St. Teresa Church.

Masses in Spanish are still available at Sacred Heart Church (65 Mellen St., in Portland) every Sunday at 12:30 p.m.; the Basilica of Ss. Peter & Paul (122 Ash St., in Lewiston) every Saturday at 6 p.m. and livestreamed at princeofpeace.me; and Holy Family Church, (66 North Ave., Sanford) on the first and fourth Sunday of each month at 5 p.m. Sanford Masses are live-streamed as well.
