PITTSTON – Charles Bailey Callahan of Pittston passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2021. He was a loving husband, father, Grampy, and friend to many. He was a proud Navy Veteran and served for almost 15 years. He was employed by the Department of Interior and worked as a law enforcement park ranger until he retired on Sept. 27, 2008. At the time of retirement, he worked at Gettysburg National Military Park. He had previously worked at Shenandoah National Park, Independence National Historical Park, and Catoctin Mountain Park.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; his son Brian Callahan of Pownal, his daughter Nicole Harbaugh of West Gardiner and her partner Jason Picard, his daughter Bridget Phelps of Augusta and her partner Lucas McKenzie. He adored his five grandchildren, Layden and Brooke Harbaugh, Lucy Boring, and Lukas and Brooke Picard. He had numerous good friends and touched so many lives but special mention must go to his best friend of 40 years, Steve Just of Chesapeake, Va. and his wife Mary Ann. He is also survived by his sister, Hilda Jones of Dobson, N.C., his brother, Bill Callahan of Rock Hill, S.C., his brother, Dennis Callahan of Matthews, N.C., his brother, Danny Callahan of Brandon, Miss., and his brother, Ricky Callahan of Brandon, Miss.

He is predeceased by his father, Joseph Callahan, his mother, Lucille Callahan; and brothers, Joe and Jim Callahan.

A future memorial service is being planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PALS No-Kill Cat Shelter in Winthrop; Justice Rescue in Philadelphia, Pa.; the ASPCA; or your local Humane Society or other animal rescue organization of your choice.
