Olive J. Edwards

AUGUSTA – On Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2021, heaven received another angel. Olive J. Edwards, 77, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Augusta on Sept. 11, 1943, a daughter of the late Elden G. and Margaret M. (Halpin) Jerolmon.

She was a graduate of Cony High School, Central Maine Beauty School and was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. She was a self-employed hairdresser, working from her home for many years. She later worked at her families’ convenience store, Jeff’s Market, alongside her dear friends and family. She was a member of the Riverside Women’s Club for nearly 40 years, where she made many life-long friends.

Olive especially loved her role as Nana. Her love for her family and friends knew no bounds and she would have moved mountains for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild. Whether it was shouting Tarzan’s jungle call into a McDonald’s drive-thru intercom while her grandkids hid in the backseat, or hanging goody bags from a tree for when the grandkids got off the school bus, or putting treats in a secret mailbox, or baking cookies and cupcakes, having sleepovers, telling stories and making-up songs, it’s just what Nana did – she made life fun! Nana never said goodbye without giving lots of hugs and kisses and letting them know how much she loved them. They enjoyed every minute spending time with her as much as she enjoyed spending time with them.

A life-long resident of Church Hill Road, Olive was a farm girl at heart and flower gardening was her passion. When she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness to all who entered, she could be found in one of her many gardens caring for her flowers. Christmas was her favorite time of year. A winter wonderland, she decorated her home with trees, fresh garland and candles. Every inch of her home was filled with the Christmas spirit.

Olive was predeceased by her sister, Sheila M. Evers.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Bryce K. Edwards; two sons, James “Scott” Edwards of Augusta, and Jeff Edwards of Southern California, two daughters, Jennifer Edwards Lord and her husband Timothy of Augusta, and Jill Edwards of Augusta; six grandchildren, Abby Quintal, Ryan Edwards, Shelby Edwards, Haley Edwards, Hannah Lord and Luke Lord; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Edwards; a brother, David Jerolmon and his wife Gail of South Carolina; as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends from Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Ireland and England.

Mama, our work is done here. We did our very best in caring for you and loving on you over these past several months and we would do it all over again. Our love for you and the compassion and kindness we showed you is a true testament to the love you showed to each of us, all of our lives. We thank God and our employers for allowing us this opportunity to devote ourselves to you – we will forever be grateful. What an amazing gift to have had this time with you to share childhood memories, pray, read the bible, laugh until we cried, and tell you how much we loved you and appreciated you. May heaven be as magnificent as you ever imagined, and may there be a TJ Maxx you can shop at until your heart is content. We love you! Love, Hugs and Kisses! JJJJ

There will be no public visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial and celebration of Olive’s life will be held at a later date.
