William Ephriam Dudley

ROME – William Ephriam Dudley, 95, passed away Feb. 7, 2021 at his home in Rome. He was born June 18, 1925 in Smithfield, the son of Joseph P. and Lucy E. (Rowe) Dudley.

He was educated in the schools of Rome and Smithfield. On Sept. 2, 1950 he married Corinne Thomas in Belgrade. He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946.

He was employed at Wyndotte Woolen Mill from 1948 to 1958, was a self-employed carpenter/painter from 1958 to 1995, and worked for the town of Rome from 1963 to 1985. He enjoyed farming, gardening, using his bulldozer to get out wood and weekly trips on Thursday to Burger King.

William is survived by his wife of 70 years, Corinne (Thomas) Dudley of Rome; six daughters, Beverly Gray and partner Greg Hanley of Pittston, Audrey Luce and husband Randy of Coventry, Conn., Sally Rogers and husband Jeff of Madison, Joanne Watson and husband Rusty of Mercer, Maryellen Charles and husband Raymond of Mercer, Nicky Witham and husband Rodney of Fairfield, son, Benjamin Dudley and wife Valerie of Norridgewock; two sisters, Alice Christensen of Smithfield, Florence Witham and husband Richard of Smithfield; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

A special thanks to daughters, Sally and Maryellen, grandson Ben Dudley, his wife Megan and niece Patty Wilde for all the help to him over the past several years so he could remain at home.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
