I can only imagine how Sen. Susan Collins, as a self-proclaimed “moderate,” must feel, watching the Republican Party lurch into the extremism of hate and greed. My mother was a lifelong Republican, and she held to kindness, inclusion and helping everyone who needs it, something that the Trump Republicans do not abide by.
As it stands now, Sen. Collins is on the wrong side of history. She must stand up to the racist, sexist and anti-democratic hoards who Trump encouraged in the coup attempt on the Capitol.
He did not “learn his lesson,” and she should apologize for that approach.
She should support and pass the COVID-19 relief package as it stands. We must spend money on helping everyone, which will move our country to recovery.
