FocusMaine, in partnership with Educate Maine, is relaunching its statewide internship program under a new name.
Previously known as the FocusMaine Intern Experience, the program will be renamed Maine Career Compass and will incorporate a variety of career development paths such as internships, cooperatives and apprenticeships, FocusMaine said Thursday.
Launched in 2017, the internship program has served more than 2,000 students and over 80 employers across the state, FocusMaine said. Interns who have participated in the program are more likely to stay in Maine and have a more positive outlook on career opportunities in the state, it said.
“FocusMaine’s Intern Experience arose out of a need to attract more people to the state and to provide young people from Maine with even more reasons to stay,” Kimberly Hamilton, president of FocusMaine, said in a statement. “As we’ve listened to employers, to people entering the workforce, and to our partners in higher education, we knew we could have an even bigger impact if we expanded the reach of the program.”
FocusMaine is an industry-funded initiative to accelerate the creation of quality jobs in Maine by investing in three high-growth fields: agriculture, aquaculture and biopharmaceuticals. For more information, visit focusmaine.org.
