Lawrence D. Meader Jr.

AUGUSTA – Lawrence D. Meader Jr., 71, of Augusta, died Wednesday Feb. 10, 2021 at his home.

He was born in Augusta July 3, 1949, the son of Lawrence D. Sr. and Caroline (Tobey) Meader.

Dad was one of the hardest working people that we knew. Growing up in Hallowell he got his start at Boyntons Market. Working there from an early age he learned a lot about how to put in a day’s labor, how to properly treat other people. He met our Mom, Lorna, there and they were married in 1972. Dad was part of Hall-Dale High School class of 1968.

He was always so incredibly generous. If he had something to lend to help another, he would. Whether it was time, some old equipment he had fixed up, or advice on how to do something, he was always there for as many people as he could. He took care of his family, friends, and neighbors.

Despite the fact he was 71, Dad would never slow down. He was always working on some project; fixing broken down items he thought someone could use, tinkering in his garage, working in his garden, or perfecting his bread recipes. Dad always kept busy.

He had a very strong work ethic, knowing that it is worth doing the job right and that helping others was always well worth the time and effort, lessons that he imparted to his sons. He provided a clear ideal on how to be a father and as a grandfather, our children could not have been more fortunate. He brought all of the love, compassion and humor he could muster to his grandchildren, playing, joking and spending as much time as he could with them.

He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend. Dad will be sorely missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Lawrence was predeceased by his sisters, Sylvia Mitchell, Alice Golden and Laura Mayo.

He is survived by his wife, Lorna (Smiley) Meader; his sons, Lawrence D. Meader III and his wife, Jodi of Farmingdale, Guy Meader and his wife, Roxanne of Readfield and Joshua Meader and his significant other, Amelia of Sidney; his brothers, Louis Meader and his companion, Ruth of Farmingdale and Robert Meader and his wife, Muriel of Augusta, his sisters, Margaret Hawes of Hallowell and Carolann Beckim of Waterville; his grandchildren, Shaun, Lillian, Rebecca, Leila, Allison, Jensen, Addie and Iris.

There will not be any services at this time.

Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the funeral home website at http://www.familyfirstfuneralhomes.com.
