Ruth D. Barney

AUGUSTA – Ruth D. Barney, 88, of Capitol Street and formerly of Melville Street, died Feb. 16, 2021 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Long Term Care at Gray Birch Drive after an extended illness.

She was born in Augusta on May 14, 1932, the daughter of Willie Dube and Annie (Pepin) Dube. Mrs. Barney was a graduate of Cony High School.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed by K-Mart for several years. She was previously employed by Patenaude’s Superette, and was a department manager for Mammoth Mart / Kings for 12 years.

Mrs. Barney was a member of St. Michael Parish at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, a member of Cushnoc Senior Citizens and the Ladies of St. Anne Society.

Her husband, Roland H. Barney, predeceased her in 2018. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Clement Dube and Roland Dube, and three sisters, Theresa Labrecque, Rita Gotreau and Bertha Beaudoin.

Surviving is a son, Norman R. Barney of Augusta, four daughters, Elizabeth Reiten of Hudson, Fla., Annette Barney of Readfield, Rachel Tremblay of Augusta and Susan Nguyen of Winthrop; five grandchildren, including Sarah Annunziata, Amy Bolduc and William Rogers; seven great-grandchilden;-one great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may visit, with Covid restrictions, on Sunday Feb. 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday Feb. 22. Burial will follow in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
