He was raised and attended school in North Anson. “Brownie”, as he was known to many, was a hard worker his whole life. In 1959 he went to work for North Anson Reel/Sonoco and worked here for 40 years. After that, he continued to work part-time and did odd jobs well into his 70’s. On June 11, 1960, Gerald married Dora Rackliff of Starks, at the United Baptist Church in Madison. They were married for 56 years. Gerald had a great love for family, friends, being outdoors, sports and food. He loved to go camping, take trips to the coast, play cards, go bowling and dancing, fishing and kayaking. Gerald enjoyed being outdoors and was most at peace when he was on the water. He also took up climbing mountains, and at the age of 70, with his son-in-law, climbed Mount Katahdin. Gerald attended his kids, grandkids and great grandkids many games, recitals and events. Our education and the ability to make a good life, was very important to him. He loved to attend all the family gatherings, especially the reunions, where if there was a meal to be had, he was ALWAYS first in line! Gerald also enjoyed spending time with good friends Rodney Kilkenny, Bob Fowler Sr., Ray Cahill, Tim Christopher and many others. He was a loyal member of Christ Community Fellowship in Madison, attending both services and bible studies. Gerald was a big sports fan, following Nascar, the Red Sox, the Patriots, Alabama football, his beloved Celtics and was in attendance for most Madison Bulldog sports events.
