SIDNEY — An accident Thursday morning on Pond Road in Sidney caused power outages for several Central Maine Power Co. customers, according to a spokesperson for the utility.

At about 10 a.m., a tow truck with equipment on the back brought down a utility pole, cutting electricity to 34 customers.

CMP crews had to shut off power to another 300 customers from 11:15 a.m. to 2 p.m., while the pole was repaired.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Pond Road and Lily Lane. Pond Road was closed to traffic for about three hours, with vehicles detoured through Goodhue and Bartlett roads, according to town officials.

Repeated attempts to reach the Sidney Fire Department and Chief Richard Jandreau were unsuccessful.
