Marvin L. Jones

MADISON – Marvin L. Jones, 88, passed away Feb. 24, 2021, at his home in Madison with loved ones at his side. He was born May 13, 1932, in Waterville, the son of Merle and Velma Stevens. He was predeceased by his mother at the age of three, and was adopted by Daniel and Lottie Jones.



He attended Norridgewock Grammar School and graduated from Skowhegan High School in the class of 1950. He was associated with his father at Miller-Jones Hardware Store in Norridgewock from 1950 to 1959. In October 1959, he enlisted in the Maine State Police. He graduated from the Maine State Police Academy in 1960. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the Greenville-Moosehead Lake area. He was promoted to detective, serving the Piscataquis County area. He was assigned to the homicide division, then to the State Attorney General’s Office. He finished his State Police career assigned to the Governor’s Security Detail, retiring in 1981. He was the seventh oldest retired Trooper and worked 22 years of service earning the title as Corporal. He worked 25 years as a school bus driver for SAD #54.



Marvin is survived by his wife, Joyce of Madison; son, Brent Jones of Pennsylvania; and a daughter, Trina Steward; stepson, Gregory Corson; stepdaughter, Lesa LeClair; two sisters, Betty Salley and Ica Grover; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Lela Beckwith, Barbara Hardy, Beverly Adams, Shirley Markham; brothers, Ernest and Oliva Stevens.



A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
