Bernadette M. Pepin

AUGUSTA – Bernadette M. Pepin, 90, of Old Belgrade Road, Augusta, died Feb. 28, 2021 at Captain Lewis Residence in Farmingdale after an extended illness. She was born in Augusta on April 12, 1930, the daughter of Ernest Lacasse and Elise (Levesque) Lacasse.

Prior to her retirement, Bernadette was employed by Pomerleau’s Bakery, Depositors Trust, and Cottle’s Supermarkets. Mother was also a homemaker and devoted to her family and religion as well as raising her children, and also taking care of her grandchildren.

Bernadette was educated in Augusta schools and a communicant of Saint Augustine Church. She was the “light in the room” when she walked in with a very pleasant smile and a big heart. Mother was the epitome of kindness, was thoughtful, and a gentle lady. She was very caring, well-liked by all, and never said a bad word about anybody.

Bernadette loved to go shopping, was a great cook, especially her soups and deserts, liked to go for long walks, was an avid reader and watcher of the day’s news. She was up early in the morning, hardworking and had a good sense of humor. She left her family and friends with many great memories, and was very compassionate and considerate to everyone that she came into contact with.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Captain Lewis Residence for providing excellent and thoughtful care to Bernadette.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Pepin in 2020; her parents; three sisters, Sr. Blanche Lacasse, Jeanette Beaudoin and husband Robert, and Christine Violette and husband Amede, and brother-in-law, Bert Arbour.

Surviving are two sons, Richard E. Pepin of Augusta and James Pepin and wife Heidi of Sidney, two daughters, Jeanne Giroux of Blue Hill, and Anne Pepin of Auburn; one sister Lucienne Arbour of Augusta; grandchildren, Jamie Pepin of Providence, R.I, and Joseph Pepin of Augusta; as well as many nieces and nephews.

There are no planned public visiting hours. A private service will be held at a later date. Burial will be with her husband in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
