Marie Therese “Terry” Ottmann

HALLOWELL – Marie Therese “Terry” Ottmann died peacefully on March 1, 2021 at Woodlands Senior Living in Hallowell. A life-long resident of Augusta, Terry was born on June 27, 1929, the daughter of Dr. Adolphe J. and Mrs. Antoinette Gingras.

Terry attended Our Lady of Angels Academy in Montreal, P.Q., then graduated from the College of New Rochelle, N.Y. in the class of 1949 and spent her junior year studying at the Sorbonne in Paris.

Terry was a communicant of Saint Michael’s Church (formerly St. Mary’s) in Augusta and spent many years volunteering as a CCD teacher and as a lector during Sunday masses.

In addition to raising six children, Terry had a successful, 35 year career as a Realtor. She opened the firm Ottmann & Company in 1971 and later worked as an agent for ERA Webb, Sprague and Curtis, and Ross-Rizzo Realtors. She was a member of the Maine Realtors Association and served on the board of Depositors Trust Company.

In her later years, ever the extrovert, nothing gave her more pleasure than to be stopped by people who recognized her and spoke of happy memories of her selling them their house.

In addition to her parents, Terry was predeceased by her sister, Constance Delorme of Augusta, her brother, Adolphe J. (Doc) Gingras of Augusta; and her daughter-in-law, Lauryn Small (John Ottmann) of Brooklyn, NY. Surviving are her brother Paul J. (Suzy) Gingras, Holliston, Mass.; her children, Constance Ottmann of Hallowell, Janet Ottmann of Irvington, NY, Judith Ottmann (Allen Ginsberg) of Belfast, Gigi Ottmann-Deeves (Robert) of Augusta, William K. Ottmann, Jr. (Theresa) of Vass, NC, and John Ottmann of Brooklyn, NY.

She leaves many nieces and nephews; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A Mass of Christian Burial, followed by burial and committal prayers will be celebrated later in the spring. A celebration of life will be planned for later this summer.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta, ME.
