John A. Lanctot

SKOWHEGAN – John A. Lanctot, 85, went home to be with the Lord surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was a twin, born in Skowhegan on Jan. 7, 1936, the son of William and Elize (Thibault) Lanctot.

John graduated from the Skowhegan High School in 1956. He played football all four years of high school. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and was a huge Patriots fan. His greatest passion was cooking and baking.

John married Joyce A. (Peterson) Hawkes July 22, 1967 in Lewiston. They were in Lewiston a short time before coming back to Skowhegan area and living here most of their married life. Together they owned and operated several restaurants, he owned a truck in which he drove over the road and later was a custodian for MSAD #54 along-side of his wife. John and Joyce were very devoted Christians they lived a very fullfilled life of 53 years together.

He was a veteran who proudly served his country in the Army National Guards. This is where he learned his love for cooking.

John is survived by his children, Steve Hawkes and wife Darlene of Newport, Cindy Salisbury and husband Pete, Bonny Folsom and husband David of Skowhegan, and Lisa Gilbert of Augusta; grandchildren, Jenni Hawkes of Newport, Rachael Houghton and husband Albert, Josh Salisbury and wife Erin, David Folsom II and wife Bobbi, Kasey Sinclair and husband Andy; 13 great-grandchildren, Hunter and Ryver Goodblood, Gabe, Jake and Eli Houghton, Camryn and Lauren Salisbury, Amelia, Tres, Charlotte and Ella Folsom, Harrison and Hannah Sinclair. John was a loving grandfather and will be greatly missed by all. Also survived by his brother Richard Lanctot of Alabama and sister Helen of Skowhegan; several nieces and nephews. Special thank you to his niece Tammy and (Rene) Perron and Cathy and (Nancy) Lanctot and also nephew Tom Lapoint for all the special care and concern shown to their Uncle.

John was predeceased by his parents; wife Joyce; daughter Debbie Pomelow; his sisters Phildora Lapointe and Flavie Swain, his brothers Felix and twin brother Jimmy Lanctot.

A very special Thank You to the Skowhegan Dialysis Center Nurses for taking such wonderful care of John for the last seven years. They all became family to him.

There will be a spring Committal service followed by a Celebration of Life for John to be announced at a later date.
