Lana Lucretia Prescott

AUBURN – On Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021, Lana Lucretia Prescott, loving mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away at the age of 77. Lana was born on Oct. 23, 1943 in Augusta to Rex and Alice (Smith) Cowan.

Lana was predeceased by her parents, brothers Darryl and Reginald, sister Barbara, and son Joseph. She is survived by her son Jeffrey and his wife Ann of Gallatin Gateway, Mont., daughter Janet of Oakland, daughter Alicen Cowan of Auburn; grandchildren Rebecca, Elizabeth, Joseph, Abbey, and Joey; cousins Mike and Betty; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

Lana graduated from Waterville Senior High School in 1962. She had plans after graduation to attend Boston College for Library Science but this changed as she happily tended to her growing family, welcoming her first child in December 1962.

Mom was the tallest 4’7” person we all knew. She took a lot of ribbing about her height, especially from her grandchildren once they all grew taller than her, but she always gave the ribbing back with a smile.

Mom worked hard for many years in the payroll department at Keyes Fibre Company while raising her children and later as a teller at Keyes Fibre Credit Union. She also moonlighted at Mr. Paperback to feed her love of reading. She retired from New Dimensions FCU in October 2009.

Mom was an avid reader and enjoyed doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, watching the Boston Celtics (and coaching loudly like Larry Bird was listening), and spending time with family. She touched the lives of everyone she came in contact with because she had a heart of gold and genuinely cared about others.

Mom could be rather adventuresome at times, like going to Israel, jumping off Williams Bridge into the Gallatin River, camping at Gulf Hagas, or when her life needed a change, moving to Arizona!

Mom gave what she could, even if it was just a smile. In her perfect handwriting, one of her last checks was a donation to the Special Olympics. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation in her name. Thank you.

There will be a gathering of family and friends in the spring, on a nice sunny day, so we can lay mom to rest in Winslow next to her parents and son.
