OAKLAND — A malfunctioning train blocked traffic for almost three hours Tuesday morning on Pleasant Street in Oakland.
The street was blocked from 6:46 a.m. until about 9:30 a.m., according to Oakland police.
Cynthia Scarano, a spokesperson for Pan Am Railways, said a broken knuckle caused the train to stop. Knuckles are part of the couplers that connect railroad cars to one another.
The broken knuckle had to be replaced, allowing the train to get rolling again, according to Scarano.
The stopped train blocked Pleasant Street, near Williams Elementary School. Oakland police advised motorists to take Main and Oak streets to get around the train.
