JEFFERSON — A Newcastle man was seriously injured after a minivan he was driving struck a dump truck Monday afternoon on state Route 32.

According to a release from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a reported traffic collision involving a minivan and loaded dump truck.

The release said Tristram A. Jones, 71, of Newcastle, was operating a 2016 Chrysler minivan northbound and failed to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle drifted into the southbound lane and struck the side of a Western Star dump truck, operated by Jody A. Seekins, 52, of Washington. After striking the dump truck, Jones vehicle’ continued off the road on the southbound shoulder, while the dump truck remained in the road.

According to the release, Jones extricated from the minivan by the Jefferson Fire & Rescue. Jones was then transported to Miles Hospital in Damariscotta with serious injuries, then transferred to Maine Medical Center via Life Flight.

The dump truck, owned by D.R. Flagg & Sons Trucking of Jefferson, received damage that disabled the vehicle, and it remained in the southbound travel lane. Seekins was not injured.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by traffic accident recinstructionists from Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office and the Maine State Police.
