HALLOWELL – Constance Small Wing died peacefully March 7, 2021 at Hillside Terrace, 21 Warren St., Hallowell, ME.

She was born Constance Elaine Small in Farmingdale on August 11, 1927, the daughter of Horace and Bessie Small. She graduated from Gardiner High School in 1945 and from the Kennebec School of Commerce in 1947.

She worked for the Maine State Police as a secretary where she met her future husband and lifelong mate Kenneth Ivan Wing Jr. They were married on December 29, 1948. Together they raised five children. After the youngest entered school, Connie began a 34-year career at MSAD #11. She began by working in the cafeteria at Gardiner Area High School. Later she became a teacher’s aide and office worker at the O.C. Woodman School and Gardiner Regional Middle School. She was truly loved by everyone who knew her for her honesty, loyalty, and unconditional love for all those who came her way.

Connie was quite the craftsperson. She braided numerous wool rugs, and was famous for her handmade dishcloths. She kept her kids, grandkids, neighbor’s kids and school kids in hand-knitted hats, mittens, and stockings. Connie and Ken enjoyed traveling much of New England with the Buck’s & Does Square Dance Club.

She will be sorely missed by her children, Barry and his wife Natalie of Randolph, Michael of Richmond, Susan and her husband Michael Feener of Melbourne, Fla., Horace and his wife Susan of West Gardiner, and Larry and his wife Holly of Litchfield; grandchildren, Andrea, Jason, Sarah, Jacob, Joshua, Derek, Dane, Justin, Tyler, and Seth; 21 great-grandchildren; and brother-in law Rosario Santerre.

She was a lifelong resident of the Gardiner, Farmingdale area. The Wing children grew up on Mt. Vernon Street and Connie lived in the family home for over 55 years before she moved to Hillside Terrace.

Mr. & Mrs. Wing were married for 49 years until Kenneth died in 1997. Connie was predeceased by her brother Harold Small, her sisters, Anne Jenkins (Walter), Ruth Sharpe (Alden), Evelyn Harper (Dr. Harry), Betty Small, brother-in-law Elmer Wing (Irene)sisters-in-law Cleda Sencebaugh (Jimmy) and Iva Santerre.

We want to thank all of the nurses and staff associated with Hillside Terrace and Androscoggin Home Health Care and Isiah Meyer of Dartmouth Geriatrics.

At her request there will be no funeral service. Committal will be at the Maine Veterans Cemetery right beside Ken.

Arrangements are entrusted thru Staples Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner, Maine. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Staples Funeral Home website: http://www.familyfirstfuneralhomes.com
