Eleanor Marilyn MacLean

EMBDEN – Eleanor Marilyn MacLean, 91, passed away March 3, 2021 at her home in Embden. She was born Sept. 27, 1929 in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Richard Conrade and Mildred Irene (DeGrove) Volz.

She graduated from North Quincy High School in 1948, then continued her education at Pondville School of Nursing, earning her LPN in 1951. On May 3, 1950, she married John T. MacLean Sr. in Wrentham, Mass.

Eleanor was employed by a number of medical facilities throughout her career, including Woonsocket Hospital in Woonsocket, R.I., Norwood Hospital in Norwood, Mass., Pondville Medical Hospital in Norfolk, Mass., Sheldonville Nursing Home in Wrentham, Mass. and several private homes. She was a member of Original Congregational Church in Wrentham and worked with hospice as well as helping the hospice team in Skowhegan, providing care for several hospice patients. Eleanor loved being a nurse. She enjoyed doing her hospice work in Massachusetts and continued doing it here in Maine.

She was an avid knitter, loved going to Solon Hotel and cooked many meals for the hunters and bikers who stayed there. She made homemade spaghetti dinners for them when the bikers returned from a 100 mile run. Eleanor loved her camp on Embden Pond. Having her family and her extended family there with her gave her much happiness.

She is survived by her husband of 71 years, John T. MacLean Sr. of Embden; son, James MacLean of Solon, two daughters, Jeanne MacLean Conroy and Judith MacLean Greene both of Wrentham, Mass.; grandchildren, Lisa Foss of Florida, Rachael Morneau of Plainville Mass., Courtney Tornabene of Norfolk, Mass., Lindsey Greene of Johnston, R.I., Zachary Greene of San Rafael, Calif., Jessica Huot of Wrentham, Mass., and Michael Laliberte of Wrentham, Mass.; 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, John T. MacLean Jr. in 2001.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
