Jack Charles Decker Sr.

MOOSE RIVER – Jack Charles Decker, Sr., 75, of Moose River, devoted and loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 14, 1946 in Jersey City, N.J., the son of the late Percy Grey and the late Edna Mae (Donaway) Decker.Jack grew up in Jersey City, N.J., graduating Snyder High School in 1964. He joined the NJ Air National Guard in 1965 as a crew chief on the F-106 Delta Dart assigned to the 177th Tactical Fighter Squadron. Three years later, in July 1968, he was activated by the U.S. Air Force and assigned to the 355th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Phu Cat Air Base, South Vietnam, during the height of the Vietnam Conflict. He returned home in June 1969. Jack continued serving his country until retiring from the NJ Air National Guard in April 1987.His adventurous spirit and love for the outdoors led him and his family to Jackman, Maine. Jack was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing. He owned and operated the Moose River Lodge and Motel, was a Registered Maine Guide, NRA life member, and VFW life member. In 1995, Jack became a U.S. Customs Inspector at the Jackman Port of Entry. He enjoyed many years of camaraderie and service to his country before his retirement in December 2011.He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 50 years, Gladys (Wesslock) and their dog Hayes; son Jack Decker, Jr. and wife Ching-Mei Weaver of Glenburn, daughter Jennifer Pooler and husband Russ of Windham, daughter Jeanine Raymond and husband Randy of Brewer. Affectionately known as Pop-Pop, his fondest memories were hanging out with his grandchildren, Jade and Jack Decker, Alexander Pooler, and Benjamin Raymond. The consummate entertainer, he was always one step ahead of them with a funny face, Pop-pop joke, or silly prank. His laughter was infectious and he enjoyed making everyone around him laugh. He is also survived by his sisters Meta Marshello and her husband Joe of Mays Landing, N.J., Beverly Thomas of Bayonne, N.J., Barbara Erickson of Old Bridge, N.J., brother Richard and his wife Jacqueline Thomas Decker of Vineland, N.J.; and many, many loved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Stephen and Kevin.A service is being planned for the spring; a date will be announced at a later time.
