Vernon “Vern” Ford

MADISON – Vernon “Vern” Ford, 79, passed away at his home wrapped in the arms of his loving family on March 4, 2021. He was born and raised in the New Portland area.

A graduate of Central High School in New Portland, he would proudly declare that he was among the top 10 in his class, only to admit that there were only nine students. He attended Burdett Business College in Boston prior to joining the U.S. Marine Corp where he proudly served during the Vietnam conflict.

Vern was employed with International Paper Co. for many years, leaving after 22 years to devote himself full time to his logging business. After retiring, he spent several years working alongside his beloved brother and hunting buddy Winston at Sun Auto and Salvage.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed time spent with his grandson Cody, sharing his life-long love of hunting and fishing. He held fond memories of camping trips to his favorite fishing spot with close family and friends. We will fondly remember Vern’s great sense of humor and an infectious laugh that stood out in a crowd.

Vernon is survived by his best friend and companion of 38 years, Glenda Amburg; his cherished daughter, Allison Ford and her companion Brian Hartley; and his beloved grandson, Cody Cyr. He was predeceased by his parents, Millard and Marcia Ford; his brother, Winston Ford and his sister Nancy (Ford) Poulin.

A private graveside service will be held at the Lexington Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Dan & Scott’s Cremation & Funeral Home, 488 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, ME 04938.
