Dorothy M. Monohon

BANGOR – Dorothy M. Monohon, 91, passed away March 5, 2021, at a local hospital. She was born July 15, 1929, in Brunswick, the daughter of Ellis and Jessie (Barnes) Manter.

Dorothy graduated from Bangor High School, class of 1947 and attended the University of Maine and Husson University (formerly Husson College). She started working at Merchants National Bank in June, 1948, and continued until her retirement in December, 1989, from Maine National Bank.

She and John Monohon were married in 1949 and spent 69 very happy years together.

She was a member of Bangor Jaycee Wives and Sunshine Club for Children. Dorothy enjoyed knitting and sewing and other crafts. In her spare time, she was John’s helper with his projects.

She is survived by a niece, Carole Kellogg, and her husband, Charles, of Gardiner, nephew, Stephen Manter, and his companion, Sharon Soderberg, of Bangor; and numerous grandnieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2018; two brothers, Everett and Robert, and a sister, Margaret Bangs.

A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, March 19 where she will be laid to rest beside her loving husband at the Central Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 163 Mount Vernon Rd., Augusta.
