Simonne Marie (Colford) Lee

AUGUSTA – Simonne Marie (Colford) Lee, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Glenridge Nursing Facility. She was born to Joseph Albert and Yvette (Simard) Colford, at home on North Street in Augusta, on Jan. 1, 1939, the fifth child of eight.

She attended St. Mary’s Parochial School and went on to graduate from Cony High School in 1956.

Simonne married the love of her life, Elmer “Sonny” Lee on May 9, 1959. They had one child, Joseph Ancel Lee.

In 1966 the family moved to Connecticut where they lived for 10 years. She was a teacher’s aide, did the books for her husband’s maintenance business and helped out with that as well. They moved back to Maine in 1976 and started an office maintenance business here as well. They took up harness racing in 1982 and traveled around the state, participating in that until his death in 1995. She held a USDA Trainer’s License which she was very proud of. She also worked for Key Bank for a short time until health issues forced her to get done.

She then devoted her time to her grandsons, caring for them on a daily basis, volunteering in their classrooms, chaperoning field trips and going to sporting events. She was a proud and devoted grandmother.

Simonne was predeceased by her husband; her son; and parents; as well as her brothers, John and Richard Colford, sisters, Lorraine and Joyce Colford; and a very much-loved mother-in-law, Barbara Lee Martin.

She is survived by her grandsons, Zachary (Abby) Lee of Windsor, Dalton Lee of Whitefield; sisters, Jeannette (Ben) Garand of Augusta, and Anita Colford of Phippsburg, Ida (Bill) Willis of Clarksville, Tenn., sister-in-law, Pamela (Bob) Wallace of Morristown, Tenn. and South China and brother-in-law, Lawrence (Doreen) Lee of Winslow, as well as many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by close friends, Gwyneth Elvin and her neighbor, John Courier who helped her on a daily basis.

Funeral services will be held at a later date at the family’s discretion.
