I recently received my first COVID vaccine scheduled through MaineGeneral Health.

The day before, I received a courtesy call reminding me of the time and place to report. The following morning, as I approached the Augusta Civic Center, I followed the signs directing me where to park. When I entered the Civic Center, while carefully observing the directional signs on the floors and the 6-feet social distancing reminders I became aware of an atmosphere of calmness and reassurance.

Everyone who greeted or assisted me had beautiful smiles, was kind, and displayed positive attitudes. Standard questions were clearly spelled out on large displays, set up on easels for easy reference and clarity. They were explained in detail by the person welcoming us — an asset to those with poor vision, hearing aids, common afflictions of people in my age bracket.

The presence of many pristinely uniformed members of our Maine Army National Guard provided reassurance, a sense of security and detail to an obviously very well planned and orchestrated venue. The Guard along with MGH personnel were making every effort to assure its senior citizens that their experience would be a pleasant one. I was amazed at the monumental effort taken in coordinating this effort. Every person I interacted with was genuinely gracious, inviting and warm.

I was treated with respect and courtesy by a group of real professionals representing MaineGeneral, along with our men and women in uniform. I felt compelled to write on behalf of a well-orchestrated event with every attention to detail addressed.

To every person on site that day and our men and women in uniform, thank you. Job well done.
