READFIELD — Regional School Unit 38 canceled school Monday for all district students, out of an abundance of caution while contact tracing took place after a positive COVID-19 case was reported over the weekend at Maranacook Community Middle School.

RSU 38 Superintendent Jay Charette said Monday afternoon the middle school will be remote for the rest of the week, while the elementary and high school will return to in-person classes Tuesday.

Positive coronavirus cases also were reported in Augusta schools and Maine School Administrative District 11, but those did not impact scheduling for those districts.

Cony Middle and High School reported a positive COVID-19 case Monday morning. Principal Kim Silsby said close contacts were identified and are quarantining.

MSAD 11’s positive COVID-19 case involves a student who attends school in-person, four days a week at Pittston-Randolph Consolidated School. Superintendent Pat Hopkins notified the community on Saturday. In her letter to the district she said close contacts have been identified and contacted.
