Maine Arts Academy in Sidney is going to remote-only classes for the remainder of the week due to a potential COVID-19 case, the school announced Tuesday afternoon.

Maine Arts Academy is a public charter school located at Snow Pond Center for the Arts. The school’s enrollment includes approximately 250 students from 80 different Maine towns.

“The CDC’s current reporting of spikes in Kennebec and Piscataquis counties are cause for concern and our focus is on mitigating risk,” the school wrote on its Facebook page. “As of right now, there are no close contacts. Per CDC procedure, only close contacts will be notified in the event there is a positive case.”

A school spokesperson confirmed the situation to the Morning Sentinel.

Maine Arts Academy previously switched to fully remote learning in November due to a positive COVID-19 case.
