George B. Buck III

BELGRADE – George B. Buck III, 75, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 5, 2021 with his loving wife at his side. He is the loving husband of Patricia (Neale) Buck with whom he shared 43 years of marriage.

George was born July 11, 1945 in Brooklyn, N.Y. He is the son of George B. Buck Jr. and Virginia (Sommer) Buck. He was a resident of Belgrade for many years. He was a graduate of New Hampton Prep School and Long Island University.

He worked as a sportsman, and general farmer. George loved working and being outdoors.

George was proud of his four years of military service in Pawtuxent River Naval Air station in Maryland and in Italy in Sicily. He was head mechanic for U.S. jet planes.

George was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and was also a shooter who won many metals. George was an avid skier and enjoyed skiing at Sugarloaf. He was a great friend to many and quietly made a big impact on people’s lives for the better.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia Buck; his stepson, Clifford D. Mathews of Rome, his stepdaughter, Dona E. Mathews of New Sharon; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Pamela Lawrence of Swampscott, Mass., Frederick A. Renz of Exeter, N.H., Walter L. Renz of Brookfield, Conn., Adam Renz of Defiance, Mo., his sisters, Patricia Bruschi of Point Pleasant, N.J., Hettie Buck of Moultonborough, N.H., Virginia Higgons of St. Charles, Mo.; his three grandchildren, David Dennis Love, Kaitlin Hodgkins, Erik Mathews; his three great-grandchildren, Aubriana, Summer, Charlotte, and Skyler.

In addition to his loving parents, George is predeceased by his stepson, Bryan S. Mathews.

George’s Funeral Services will be in the Knowlton-Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St. Augusta on Friday, March 26 at 11 a.m., followed by burial in Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road. Visiting hours will be Thursday, March 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Following the guidelines set forth by the State of Maine and the CDC face masks and social distancing will be required.
