I am shocked and appalled by the dog owners in Augusta. Never in my life have I encountered a community where the citizens seem to literally go out of their way to not pick up after their dogs. It is disgusting, unsanitary and lazy.

My partner and I moved to Augusta from southern Maine in June of 2020. We looked forward to moving to the mid-Maine region and had high hopes for the revitalization of a once-thriving industrial city. As young professionals, we feel driven to play our parts in making our new community healthier and safer.

However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to get passed the lack of personal responsibility expressed by our neighbors. It’s pretty simple: clean up after your dog. Period. There’s no excuse for leaving your dog’s waste on sidewalks or in public areas.

The Augusta Parks Department provides waste bags free of charge to anyone who wants them. Please, citizens of Augusta. Do your part.
