Please contact your representatives about doing away with the auto inspection laws in Maine (“Maine inspection sticker requirement comes under legislative scrutiny again,” March 22). The current laws are racist and adversely affect the poor and minority communities. These oppressed communities should not have to stress over being able to drive legally to work or medical appointments because some garage with little or no oversight deemed them unworthy.
Studies also back up the fact that there are no safety benefits to these inspection laws.
Please, it is time to end these laws that keep minorities and the economically disadvantaged down.
