Lewis F. Morton

MADISON – Lewis F. Morton, 93, of Madison passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 18, 2021 surrounded by the thoughts and prayers of his family and friends at Sandy River Center in Farmington.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1927 to the late Bernis and Edna Morton of North New Portland where attended the local schools and spent his childhood.

Lewis later moved to Carmel, N.Y. where he and his first wife, Rita, cared for physically disabled children. Upon returning to Maine, Lewis worked for many years in the paper industry at Rumford Paper Mill, KC/Scott Paper Westbrook, and SD Warren/Sappi where he retired from in 1994 after working in the finishing and shipping department.

He was a faithful servant to the Lord and his love of God showed everyday as he led his life according to God’s word. He was very active in the Christ Community Fellowship Church as a volunteer, member, deacon and an elder for many years until retirement.

In 1982, he married Patricia A. Lawrence in Madison. He was a wonderful husband to Pat and they enjoyed 38 years of joy as they traveled across the globe in order to spend time with and visit family, children and grandchildren. They remodeled two houses together in North New Portland and Madison. They enjoyed tending to the vegetable and flower gardens they planted. They loved spending time on Rangeley Lake at Pauline and Tim’s Cabin’s during the summer’s and holidays.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Morton of Madison; his son, Gary Morton and life partner Ruth of Old Fort, N.C., his daughter Kathy and her husband Doug Whitehouse of Hollis Center, his daughter, Cheryl Tracy of Largo, Fla., his stepdaughter, Pauline and her husband Timothy Lyons of Rangley / Rome, his stepson, Col. (R) John Lawrence and his wife Sheila of Manhattan, Kan., and his stepson, Steven Lawrence and wife Amy of Angleton Texas. Lewis also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, Christopher, Bethany, Natasha, Toni, Brian, Troy, Eddie, Nick, Zack and Steven; as well as several great-grandchildren, all of which loved him dearly.

We were blessed by our heavenly lord to have Lewis in our lives. He taught us all the meaning of family, faith, patience, integrity, kindness, hard work, forgiveness but most of all love. He was truly a gift from God and we will miss him dearly. There will be no public visiting hours or funeral service. A private service will be held at a later date this spring.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Giberson Funeral Home and Cremation Services. To leave a condolence for the family and to view the online obituary, please visit http://www.gibersonfuneralhome.com.
