Muriel Dinsmore Holloway

AUGUSTA – Muriel Holloway, 94, passed away peacefully Friday March 12, 2021. She was born Feb. 5, 1927 in Worcester, Mass., daughter of Martha Dinsmore.

Muriel was raised in Eastport and enjoyed returning each summer to celebrate the 4th of July with her family and close friends. Muriel married the love of her life Herbert Douglas “Doug” Holloway, November of 1948 and moved to Portland where they started their family. Muriel raised her two daughters enjoying nature on the Sugarloaf ski slopes while staying in their favorite get-away cabin on the Carrabassett River, teaching them how to garden and how to be strong educated ladies.

Muriel began her career in public service as a social worker at the YMCA in Portland and by the time she was ready to retire she had served the public as a representative of the house and in Maine State Senate. Muriel would find the time to talk to anyone who needed to talk, and to write a letter to anyone she felt needed to listen.

Muriel and her husband retired in Green Valley, Ariz. where she spent many wonderful years playing tennis, hiking, gardening, and her favorite pastime, following politics. They returned to Maine in 2002 to spend time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren where she adopted the name “Gigi”.

Muriel developed fond memories wherever she was and shared willingly with those that came into her life in her later years. She will always be remembered by her family for her passion for people, her beautiful sense of fashion, and the strength she passed down to her daughters and five granddaughters.

She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Holloway of Augusta, and Elizabeth Fredrick and her husband, Philip of Surry; five granddaughters and five great-grandchildren, Mariah Yoskowitz her husband Avi and her son Dylan Walters of Sarasota, Fla.; Annalee Morris-Polley her significant other Benjamin Bolduc and her two children Katrina Rose and Timothy Douglas of Augusta; Christian Morris her husband Brent Burnette and her children Jackman Reese and Winter Ryan of Las Vegas; Grace Norton and her husband Nicholas Norton of Augusta; Natasha Fredrick of Surry.

She was predeceased by her husband, H. Douglas Holloway; brother, Robert Dinsmore; and mother, Martha Dinsmore.

A graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, July 6 at 10 a.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery in Kingfield. Individuals attending should plan to observe Covid-19 restrictions including wearing a mask and social distancing.

Arrangements under the direction and care of Dan and Scott’s Cremation and Funeral Service, 445 Waterville Rd., Skowhegan ME 04976.
